The Backsliders
Formed in 1992 by Steve Howell and Chip Robinson in Raleigh, NC, The Backsliders evolved into a rock and roll outfit, drawing inspiration from the Flying Burrito Brothers and the Rolling Stones. Adding members like Danny Kurtz, Brad Rice, and Jeff Dennis, the band’s distinct lineup gained local popularity. Signed to Mammoth Records in 1996, they released a live EP and the acclaimed debut album “Throwing Rocks At The Moon” in 1997. Despite internal changes, the band continued with their second record, “Southern Lines,” produced by Eric Ambel. The original lineup reunited in 2012, and in 2014, they recorded the EP “Raleighwood” and reissued “Hicktopia.” The Backsliders, known for their hardcore honky-tonk sound, are back and can be experienced at thebacksliders.net.
